The secret of getting ahead is getting started. Many aspire to change the world but few realize that everyone accomplishes that goal. Each day you live you are changing something. Rather than simply changing the world, one should aspire to make a positive change with each action they commit. Malaysian government in a midst of determined the most efficient way for a fuel subsidy rationalisation programme, aimed at preventing abuse and making sure only deserving Malaysian received the subsidy. It is not enough to be compassionate. An act is a must. There are two aspects to action. One is to overcome the distortions and afflictions of your own mind, that is, in terms of calming and eventually dispelling anger. This is action out of compassion. The other is more social, more public. When something needs to be done in this world to rectify the wrongs, if one is really concerned with benefitting others, one need to be engaged and involved. Maybank’s research unit reported that Malaysia suffers RM7 billion in subsidy leakage every year as result of diesel and petrol smuggling to the foreign countries. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated that 40% of Malaysians fall in the high-income group which enjoyed 80% of the nation’s fuel subsidies.

The failure in implementation of the fuel subsidy rationalisation programme in 2009 as headed by Maybank-IRIS was a disgraced to the nation where their proposed scheme to grant subsidy based on a vehicle’s engine capacity was not welcomed by the people. There was no solid reason’s given by Maybank and IRIS until today. All these happened due to incompetent person or organization awarded to spearhead this project. To generalize is to be an idiot. To particularize is the alone distinction of merit. General knowledge are those knowledge that idiots possess. Maybank-IRIS relationship arises from close friendship between Dato’ Seri Wahid and Dato’ Tan Say Jim.

On August 7th August 2014, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said the government is studying all the proposals and the programme is expected to be rolled out next month. A second attempt to rationalisation of fuel subsidy in Malaysia after the first attempt failed. A million dollar question should be asked is, what makes this second attempt succeed as there was no explanation given by Maybank-IRIS relationship on the first failure. Government should before rolling out any solutions, to urged Maybank-IRIS to explain what makes 2009 Fuel Subsidy Programme failed? The answer to this question will help much to improve the second attempt or should I call it The Last Attempt. Hopefully, this time around the government will not repeat the mistake when implementing the fuel subsidy rationalisation programme. Back then, on July 3rd 2014, Ministry of Finance Secretary-General of Treasury Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah that the government is expected to finalize a new fuel subsidy scheme in the next six month, pending completion of study. Remember, people will judge you by your actions and decisions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of goal but so does a hard-boiled egg.

This time around, there will be other player try to bid into this project. Among them are Datasonic Group Bhd, Iris Corp Bhd, MyEG Services Bhd. and others.

I can still see IRIS on the list. This time around, will IRIS get back spearheading this project? Satiety is a mongrel that barks at the heels of plenty. Will the government or Dato’ Seri Wahid re-appointing IRIS later? I really wonder, how much did Malaysia Government pay them (Maybank-IRIS) for the 2009 failure? Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. Each bidder this time has their own proposal and their own way to rationalise the fuel subsidy programme. Will SOMEBODY hijacking SOMEONE proposal this time around as many knew about relationship between one of the bidders and the minister. Aristotle once said “Friendship is essentially a partnership “.Was Aristotle referring to the special friendship between Dato’ Seri Wahid and Dato’ Tan Say Jim. Will friendship overcome the national interest on addressing abuses and ensuring that only deserving parties benefit from the fuel subsidy and on top of all not to burden Malaysian in general. There is nothing more likely to drive a man mad, than the being unable to get rid of the idea of the distinction between right and wrong, and an obstinate, constitutional preference of the true to the agreeable. Those who govern, having much business on their hands, do not generally like to take the trouble of considering and carrying into execution new projects. The best public measures are therefore seldom adopted from previous wisdom, but forced by the occasion.

The public do not know enough to be experts, but know enough to decide between them………

Recap from Malaysia Today on Aug 14, 2014, Anwar Ibrahim and Abdul Wahid Omar both agree that SPLASH should get RM2.5 billion after the re-valued from RM250 million......WOW!!!
